Leadership in professional conservatories in Spain. An exploratory study of managers' perceptions

The present work, which is part of a larger study, presents a descriptive exploratory study on the current situation of management leadership in Music Conservatories in Spain. The sample is formed by 23 directors of Professional Conservatories. The instrument used is a semi-structured interview applied by telephone. The information collected has been categorized into four broad areas. The qualitative methodology used aims to know and evaluate the organization of Conservatories and the pedagogical leadership exercised by its directors. The results show the enormous heterogeneity of the educational offer of the conservatories analyzed, the discontent of the directors with the regulations that regulate the access to the position and the presence of traits of educational leadership in the exercise of the direction.
