Teaching practices of memorable university professors. The student as an anthropological peer.

Abstract

This article discusses some findings from our research on the good teaching practices of a professor of the chair Introduction to Philosophy at Mar del Plata State University, Argentina. Such professor belongs to the group „memorable teachers‟ signalled as such by their advanced students. She regards her students as anthropological peers, and this is evidenced in her teaching, since she privileges the affective bond and favours certain ethic and political dimensions. We attempt to further our understanding of good university teaching through ethnographic records, an interview to the professor, surveys to the students, a class journal, testimonies and reference materials, for as Liwtin (2012) claims, research into good teaching practices calls for the identification of classroom work and the analysis of empirical data.
