Native Students and inmigration: Influence of family experiences as emigrants in the relationship with their inmigrant school partners

Abstract

The origin of this article is some research carried out on the perception of native students of Vocational Training Studies about the presence of immigrant partners in these courses. The authors mean to find out whether their perception of immigration is influenced by the existence of their possible emigrant relatives. To achieve that goal, we have created and used a questionnaire on a sample of a population of half a thousand students in the province of Granada. We have taken into account variables referred to immigration in general, to immigrant students in Vocational Training Studies and, finally, to immigrant people in working places. Some of the most relevant conclusions point out that students with emigrant relatives have a more positive view of immigrant people and try to make possible their integration. However, students without emigrant relatives tend to see emigrant people as a problem and prefer to keep away from them.
